Art?

After I was out of the office in UK for the entire week, I returned to my office yesterday morning. At the door of my office, I was greeted by a big sign: "Start Pack’n."

No, I didn’t get fired—I wouldn’t have to pack if I were fired.

It’s because our lease with the Post Montgomery Center will expire next April. Since most of our floor is normally empty these days, the new lease cycle will downsize to only half of the floor. That means there will have some remodeling and reconstruction on the floor sometimes this winter. Hence, sooner or later, I need to pack my shit together to fit into the "new" layout.

I have a pretty big office—about 50 square foot. So naturally, it has become my extended living room: plants, furniture, gym bag, Feng Shui water fountain, etc. It’s like a garage sale site. So some coworkers spent some time when I was away and hand made a sign to remind me that I need to pack now, because it will take forever for me to pack up before I can move next year.

Well, I shall see when I can actually start packing. I will leave the sign on my door indefinitely, till the day I am done packing.

It was a gorgeous long Labor Day weekend. It was warm and clear. The tide was as high as my energy level, and the sky was as bright as my mood. On Sunday, Peter and I headed to the Marin Headlands and hiked in the fresh air and socked in the beautiful surroundings for a few hours.

Then the next day, I had a lot fun at Galen’s housewarming party. I was extremely impressed by Galen’s talent on home improvement. Yuki had couple sushi chefs to make delicious sushi.

It was super hot yesterday. I guess it’s about time for the summer in San Francisco to start. At the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and the
San Francisco Museum of Modern Art quickly, some works intriguer me.

At Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, a new work contains a penis, a butt, and breasts stick out of a wall. They all shake with the music played by the player on the floor.

I am pretty open-minded, but I don’t get it. What is art? Why is this art?

Another work is projected video on a screen hanging on top of a cushion on the floor. One must lie on the cushion in order to view the work. When I walked in, a woman in shorts and tank top lying on the floor with her flesh exposed. I thought she was part of the work. Then she got up, and kept walking.

San Francisco Museum of Modern Art currently is having an exhibition of "Half-Life of a Dream: Contemporary Chinese Art from the Logan Collection," which many of them are similar to works what I saw at 798. A little girl got on the platform and mimicked the dragon, before the guard yelled her off.

I thought that was cute, she should be allowed to do that.

Oh, last night at "Project 3-3-3," I won a $10 gift card from Safeway. I wonder if I need to report it on next year’s tax return.
